Please describe any significant events that occurred this week and what you think about them

Several counties in Florida and California have decided to close down their beaches for the July 4th weekend to keep people from congregating. The EU has issued a new travel ban where only 14 countries are exempt, and the U.S. is not one. It stings, yet it isn’t shocking in the slightest. Our numbers are spiking so rapidly, and health officials are saying we aren’t moving fast enough to slow it down. Dr. Anthony Fauci said that there could be up to 100,000 new cases every day by the end of the summer and we are already at around 50,000 per day. South Carolina is one of several states that has seen this spike, and we have seen around 1,500 new cases every day. It seems like the numbers are only going up, including the number of people being admitted to the hospital which means the cases are serious. The age group that is contracting and spreading COVID the most is my age group, around 18-30, and I am ashamed that that is the case. I do my part – wearing a mask, washing my hands, socially distancing, not going out unless I must – why can’t other people my age see how important this is?

2)     Were there any significant changes between this week and last week?

The outbreak has continued to get more severe as the week has gone on, and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down. Hospital occupancy has skyrocketed, and Texas is almost out of ICU beds. The percent positive in South Carolina has jumped from about 14% to 20% and up.
