1) Please describe any significant events that occurred this week and what you think about them
America truly seems to be on the cusp of real, impactful change. I’ve never seen protests against police brutality last this long in my lifetime, and people in power seem like they are actually listening and trying to find solutions. I wonder if the pandemic is what finally stirred the pot enough to make it stick this time – it’s one of the only things that is different besides the names of those who have died.
On the subject of COVID-19, it is, unfortunately, not going away, but states and cities are still reopening at a rapid rate even as the number of cases has increased in nearly half the states in the county. This Sunday, South Carolina had 799 new cases of the coronavirus – the largest daily number for this state that I have seen since this pandemic began in the U.S. Doctors and health experts are worried that protests have been a catalyst for spreading the virus, because although many protesters wear masks, there is rarely any social distancing and that combination is crucial for reducing the spread.
2) Were there any significant changes between this week and last week?
More states are reopening and seeing an increase in cases of COVID-19. The economy and the stock market have been suffering from the lockdowns and the uncertainty that this pandemic has created. People are desperate to get the economy back to pre-corona numbers and stability. And to think – we were finally recovering from 2008.
