Monday
I finally got to wash my car today! I haven’t been able to hand wash it since the end of the fall semester, and boy it was sure dirty. I borrowed a long brush from a neighbor and climbed up on a ladder to reach the roof. It took me almost three hours to wash the car and do the interior, but it looks so much better now. One thing about staying home is that you have almost endless amount of time on your hands to get to those chores you’ve been putting off.
Tuesday
Mama and I went to the grocery store today. We wore the masks I had made for the first time and they worked great! Now I hope they’ll just survive the washing machine. We dropped off some supplies at Nana’s house and we set up a time for her to come over so that my Mama can cut her hair. Mama cutting it on the back patio has got to be a least a little bit safer than going to the salons that opened yesterday.
Wednesday
Nana came over and Mama cut her hair. She wore a mask and we had on all of the fans that are in the back patio to try and keep the air flowing. Scientists still aren’t quite sure how long COVID-19 lingers in the air before it dies, so we were trying to be as safe as possible. I sat in a chair over six feet away from Nana and chatted with her, but Mama had to be really close to cut her hair. Nana also brought over the Harry Potter series for me to reread before bed.
Thursday
I got the email today that Lander is resuming face-to-face instruction in the fall. Mama immediately went into overdrive trying and figure out how to keep her and Daddy safe since I’ll be getting so much exposure. We eventually decided that I might have to stay at school for the entire semester even though my original plan was to come home on the weekends.
Friday
Our three dogs normally go to the groomers every six weeks, but the groomers have been closed and my Mama doesn’t want to go out when she doesn’t have to anyways. Mama has some training on how to cut a dog’s hair, and we have been relying on that skill a lot. She zips the hair between their pads and trims the hair that grows into their eyes. She also does some face work – trimming their ears and beards so that they don’t drip water all over the floor. Luckily, there is a mobile dog grooming service who comes through our neighborhood every once in a while, and we were able to get her to come and trim the dog’s nails today. Mama was so grateful she tipped her 30%. She gets so nervous to clip their nails because if you go too far down, they can bleed.
Saturday
My Mama was looking at some toilet paper on Amazon for our neighbor who doesn’t have internet, and it was $98 for 60 rolls of two-ply Cottonelle. There was a small blurb underneath the price that said the price had increased by $48! The fact that toilet paper is still so expensive when this has been going on for almost 3 months now is insane to me. What is going on with the supply chain when it comes to paper goods? I wonder if it’s because factories have had to shut down to contain the spread of the virus. I’ve heard on the news that meat packing plants are the source of several new COVID-19 hotspots across the middle of the country. It might have to do with all of the panic buying too.
