Monday: Final exams have finished, and so I have started this log again. My feelings towards the COVID-19 pandemic have shifted since the start of this journal and a lot has happened. There are protests all around the nation, and even in South Carolina, against stay-at-home orders and lockdowns. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in violence due to people being fed up with policies that are supposed to help combat COVID-19. Some protesters have even brought firearms into government buildings during protesting. I am not sure of my feelings towards their behavior, but I am more in disagreement with them than agreement. It is really sad. However, as of 5/13/20, I am personally in favor of re-opening. I do worry that it could be a mistake because from my knowledge pandemics should come in waves and last many years, and I have seen accounts of the awful death from this around the world; but from the perspective of a South Carolinian right now it has not been that bad and a lot of people are suffering from economic aspects caused by COVID-19 prevention policies. I want to do research on past pandemics, like the Spanish Flu, and try to find comparisons between there and what are going on now. Regardless, I feel that only hindsight will tell us if we did the right things to combat COVID-19. On a happier note, today I make tie-dye shirts for the first time in my memory! It was pretty cool.
Tuesday: The tie-dye shirts turned out awesome! Besides this I can not think of anything else that really happened that day. It was a nice sunny day though.
Wednesday: Did something really new and fun today. Me and my girlfriend built a raised garden bed and we are growing all kinds of tomatoes, cucumber and maybe later some peppers. It was a new experience for me, but I had fun doing it. The idea of self-sufficiency is something that I like and would hope to acquire the skills needed to do so. It is also very fun, and I cannot wait to see how they turn out.
Thursday: Nothing to note about daily life or the pandemic.
Friday: I worked today. I did not do any sanitation, but I have news that our stores will soon go back to their previous closing times at 10pm.
Saturday: Nothing to note here.
Sunday: Nothing to note here.
