Cameron Pate-Addie, April 6 to April 12, 2020

Monday: Nothing to write for this day.

Tuesday: Today I worked from 3pm to 8pm. I sanitized the store for two hours. Due to McMasters newest order, the “Home or Work order”, at 5pm today we closed one of our doors to the entrance of the store. I believe this was to keep track of how many people came in and out. Starting tomorrow the company will be putting tape arrows on the alleles to implement “one direction traffic.” This is to make sure customers do not pass by each other to practice social distancing. I have had bad allergies today and it sucks to be stuck on a register and having allergies during this pandemic. I am constantly trying to hold my sneezes in and not have people look at me like I am a carrier of the plague. A little before 5pm an emergency alert went out on everyone’s phones at work, it was a reminder about the new order.

Wednesday: Today was my day off from work. I spent it relaxing and not focusing on the world around me. Its good to not constantly watch the news, because if you do then you’ll just always feel worried and heavy. Take a day to just play game and relax.

Thursday: Was reminded today of the high level of unemployment right now, and people temporarily filing for unemployment or full unemployment. Member of my family might have to do this. Also, people are still not donating blood and the storage continues.

Friday: Today I worked. I sanitized carts for four hours straight. The longest I have done that job before during this pandemic was probably six hours. Being honest, it is my lease favorite job related to sanitation at my workplace. Today was also the first day I wore a mask at work. It was given to me by management. They are still optional to wear, but probably not for much longer. I only have the one mask. It is a medical mask. However, if this one breaks then they do not have more to replace it, so I have to keep it safe and sanitize it after every shift. We were also given a list of other masks we could use and bring from home. I will say, that the majority of Publix employees I talk to, and from the Publix reddit page, say that they are unhappy with how Publix has been handling this situation and treating their employees. The problems are many. I myself am pretty happy, but I do see problems. One of which is a lack of commutation from management, confusion and that the plexiglass barriers do not protect the bagger and barely protect the cashier. We are also getting bonuses, but people are complaining that they are not as much as other places. Publix is still making a profit, but lack behind many other competitors.

Another thing to add. I believe that after this pandemic there will be changes to our society. I do not know in what ways, but perhaps sanitation. However, more people are working from home and it works perfectly or even better than the old way of working at, well, work. Maybe that will change too, and I have seen two cases of Publix employees wanting us to stay closed at 8pm after this is over to improve our quality of life.

Saturday: I was off the weekend from work.

Sunday: I was off the weekend from work. Today was Easter. It was a real good day. We don’t usually do anything crazy, so it was normal. Painted Easter eggs and did an Easter egg hunt, plus baskets. This weekend I did not focus too much on the COVID-19 pandemic. I will put more attention on these events next week. It is always healthy to not consume every day to focus on issues like the pandemic.
